Pale is Beautiful 04/08/2011
Do you agree? Spectral Cosmetics certainly does - the soon-to-be-launched makeup line is dedicated to those typically elusive alabaster shades. With the tag line "Pale is beautiful, and it's time to embrace it" they certainly caught my attention. The blurb from their unfinished website piques my interest even further... "Tired of searching for obscure cosmetic products that match your fair skin tone? Spectral Cosmetics is developing a line of products that showcase and enhance your complexion to its full potential." One of my fantasies has always been of creating makeup for the ethereally pale. Besides the lack of lighter foundation and concealer shades, one shopping for makeup can't escape the onslaught of powder, cream, gel, and liquid bronzers and self tanning products put out by every brand under the sun. Don't get me wrong, I love a good bronzer now and then, but paleness is often treated like acne or wrinkles - everyone assumes it's something you want to hide... and most cosmetic brands create products accordingly. I'm excited to see a new company with a desire to go in a different direction (...and I'm always excited for a reason to buy more makeup!) It's important that we remember every skin tone is beautiful and we should each embrace and celebrate what we have! I'm really looking forward to the launch of this line! Around Christmastime I professed my love for the Alexander McQueen Skull Rings and now I have another drool-worthy accessory to lust after - box clutches! Here, again, is that absolutely adorable skull! You can never argue with classic black, but if you're feeling a bit more ostentatious there is this lovely studded Anglophile number... Now I address specifically my would-be ridiculously wealthy and anonymous benefactor (I just know you're out there, somewhere!) If you'd like to get me an early birthday gift - in addition to that Rickenbacker you've been dying to get me - the purse below would do quite nicely. Just sayin' *drool* I'm gonna go microwave a Lean Cuisine You Matter 03/23/2011
"If only you could sense how important you are to the lives of those you meet; how important you can be to people you may never even dream of. There is something of yourself that you leave at every meeting with another person." - Fred Rogers You (yes, you!) So, I've come to terms with the fact that I'll probably never own an Alexander McQueen gown... or a pair of sky-high McQueen heels, or an Alexander McQueen skull embossed leather handbag... but maybe, just MAYBE I could pinch my pennies and pull off one of these babies! I'm a sucker for big, bold rings! This one is so delightfully chic, creepy and...cute! As gorgeous as the studded skull, is it's kind of boring but the little bee takes it to a whole other level of awesome. Oh, it also comes in gold and red :) *sigh* Happy Halloween! 10/31/2010
Go out and have some fun! I'd love to know how you spent your holiday! Today is also my one-year wedding anniversary, so Halloween for me and my husband is now twice as awesome! We'll be rockin' it out tonight as a rockabilly Monster and his Bride! Fall is on it's way... 09/01/2010
Happy September 1st! Summer doesn't "officially" end till the 23rd, but with school back in session and cooler weather rolling in (for most people, not here in South East Texas) Fall is clearly making it's yearly comeback. For spooky folks this is a special time of year. Not only does the heavy black velvet get to come out of the closet, but Halloween is drawing near and soon the even the dullest shops and houses will be decked out in gothic glory. Suddenly silver skull bookends and jeweled spider napkin rings are a common site in swanky home goods stores and gore-geously outrageous false eyelashes can be had at any grocery. For those of us affected by such changes, romance is also undeniably in the air... If you're looking for a little romantic Halloween inspiration to get you ready for the season, check out the series of Halloween Wedding posts In the meantime, have an early slice of pumpkin pie for me! House of Usher 08/11/2010
This weekend in Oakland, CA is House of Usher a two day event celebrating the classic gothic/industrial club night. "House Of Usher: The pinnacle of the dual Gothic / Industrial nightclub format originally located in Berkeley, Ca. in 1991 and eventually settled in San Francisco until 1993. Now, Eighteen years later, House Of Usher returns to the Bay Area for a new annual event for August 2010. Inspired by legend and a colaborative endeavor between partners Shawni Sullivan, Xaviet Haight, Peter Stone (DJ Bat) and Don Blanchard (Mr. Meanor), House Of Usher etched it's name into history with historical concerts and events." Alas, we couldn't make it this year, but we sent along packs of goodies from Lady Spleen and Ex-VoTo. I hope everyone there has a spook-tacular time and I'm looking forward to seeing lots of pictures! Retail Fantasy Therapy 07/21/2010
I like to window shop - to gaze longingly at things I can't afford (which is just about everything). It's sick really, to torture myself this way. Sick. I'm holding out hope that a neatly wrapped package might appear on my doorstep containing several thousand dollars and note attached that explicitly states that I am not to use the enclosed cash for anything sensible (which I would otherwise undoubtedly do). This would be my subsequent purchase. Rickenbacker Bass Guitar - *sigh* Ok, I'm just beginning to play so an instrument this nice might be overkill, but isn't it beautiful? Handmade in America and %100 kick-ass! My husband has a vintage model from the 70's and it's so well crafted it practically plays itself. He's been wanting another one for a long time and now I do too. (oh, just in case Santa Clause is reading, I'd gladly take a 4003 model as well! Black, of course!) If a mysterious windfall came your way, what would you buy? | Who is Spleen?
